Things to do in and around Edinburgh

The beautiful setting and fascinating history of Scotland's capital city are undoubtedly the main reasons for many visits to Edinburgh, but once here, it is not only the magnificent buildings, ancient cobbled streets and elegant Georgian crescents that provide inspiration. Edinburgh is a Cosmopolitan city, offering a welcome to all who come to enjoy the art galleries, museums, theatres and many entertainments through-out the year, for young and old alike.

The celebrated "Old Town" centers around the Royal Mile which progresses from the Castles granite heights to stately Holyrood Palace. These landmarks contrast sharply with the "New Towns" formal architecture and graceful Georgian terraces and crescents. Dividing the two lies Princes Street, bordered on one side by the famous Gardens and on the other by fine shops to suit all tastes.

With excellent sports and varies leisure facilities, a famous Zoo and beautiful Royal Botanic Gardens to discover, there is no problem in filling every day of the holiday with something different. For eating out, Edinburgh's choice is second to none, and with 700 pubs to choose from, there is plenty of "local" atmosphere!

Edinburgh is home to a number of festivals during August. The International Festival includes opera, ballet, music, and theatrical performances. The Fringe Festival gives hundreds of new theatrical, comedy, dance and musical performers the chance to display their skills in a wide variety of venues.
